Athletics, education, and public service have shaped Jamel Perkins’ passion for developing young people. As a student-athlete (basketball) at George Mason University, he learned firsthand the importance of discipline, teamwork, resilience, and leadership. Those same values continue to influence his life today and are reflected in his family, as his son currently competes as a student-athlete (basketball) at Grambling State University. For 20 years, Jamel coached basketball at Gar-Field Senior High School in Woodbridge, VA where he helped build championship teams while mentoring numerous student-athletes who have gone on to compete at the collegiate level. He has also spent approximately 12 years coaching AAU travel basketball, using the game as a platform to help young people grow not only as athletes, but also as students, leaders, and productive members of their communities. Jamel’s commitment to serving young people extends well beyond the basketball court. He is entering his seventh year as a Criminal Justice teacher at Gar-Field Senior High School, where he connects students with educational opportunities, internships, career pathways, and mentorship that prepares them for success after graduation. Prior to becoming an educator, he proudly served the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office for 27 years, retiring as a First Lieutenant/Commander. Throughout his distinguished career, he held integral and leadership positions in the Adult Detention Center, Inmate Services Branch, Courtroom Security, Civil Enforcement, the Public Information Office, and Internal Affairs. These experiences reinforced his belief that mentorship, guidance, and access to meaningful opportunities can transform lives. Through his continued work in education and youth sports, Jamel remains dedicated to removing barriers and creating opportunities that empower young people to succeed both on and off the court.

Soccer has been a passion for Danica since she was five years old, when she began playing recreationally with MCSA. By the age of eight, she advanced to travel soccer, where she played competitively until she was 16. Although injuries eventually required her to return to recreational soccer, the sport remained a constant throughout her childhood and adolescence. Through soccer, Danica developed leadership, determination, discipline, and commitment. The game also taught her how to read and understand people—skills that have benefited her throughout school, her professional career, and everyday life. Because of the positive impact soccer has had on her life, Danica is passionate about giving back and creating opportunities for local youth to experience the same growth, friendships, and life lessons that the sport provided her. Serving on the Board of Clear Sky Sports Angels allows her to help make those opportunities available to the next generation. Danica graduated from George Mason University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She currently works as a Property Manager and is also a licensed Real Estate Agent.
